Thomas C. Matychowiak,
Mediator
Welcome to my Web site. On June 30, 2005, I ceased to practice law with
the intent to establish a new practice devoted primarily to mediation.
I offer these things about me as reasons for serving as a mediator:
- Trustworthy: I am committed to keeping confidential anything of
significance told me in confidence in private session. This permits
each side to be candid in their discussions with me, and helps prevent
harm to the position of any party in the event that matter is not
resolved. I can also be trusted to know when to ask consent for
disclosure when doing so will move the process forward toward
settlement.
- Patient and Persistent: I am optimistic by nature, and will
persist as long as there is any reasonable prospect of settlement; I
will devote as much time and effort as is needed to accomplish that.
- Experienced and Effective: In addition to 28 years of civil trial
practice covering a wide variety of cases, I have served as a judge pro-
tem for the Fresno Superior for the last 12 years. Although my
resolution rate has varied over the years, it consistently exceeds
75%, including my work at the court.
- Well-Trained: Before becoming a lawyer, I worked in Social
Services where I received training and supervision which served me
well as a lawyer, enabling me to deal effectively with difficult people;
this is even more valuable to me now as a mediator. Completion of
nationally well-regarded, fundamental and advanced mediation
programs at Pepperdine gives these general personal skills specific
focus.
